Rob Liefield's EXTREME UNIVERSE Lands At Netflix

Akiva Goldsman, screenwriter and current writers' room host to the Transformers saga and upcoming Ology franchise, is still on deck to adapt and helm a live-action take on Rob Liefield's 1995 Maximum Press superheroine, Avengelyne. In the meantime, he's also primed to ante up efforts to deliver Liefield's Extreme Universe as of last January, and now with evolution by way of a new seven-figure deal with Netflix in its current efforts to load up on original IP with the success of David Ayer's Bright in tow.

The goal will be to generate a series of feature films with connective tissue, anchored by Liefeld’s comic book creations, all of which bear many of the same tonal traits that comprise Liefield's most prolific creation as of late, Deadpool, which saw its R-rated success story in 2016 with a sequel to follow this summer. The first title among the bunch to advance forward for the big screen among the over fifty characters between six comic books hasn't been officially announced yet but with names like Brigade, Bloodstrike, Cybrid, Lethal, Re-Gex, Bloodwulf, Battlestone, Baboom and Nitro-Gen, I'd say the world's armies of comic book fandom have plenty to pine over.

via Deadline:
“Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Universe features gritty stories and distinctive characters,” said Netflix feature film chief Scott Stuber. “Akiva’s creative voice has been behind some of the largest movie franchises, making him uniquely capable of helping bring these superheroes from the Extreme Universe to life for Netflix.”

Said Goldsman: “Rob is a unique and innovative talent who knows how to combine hard-edged comic book action with real emotionality. Netflix has the ambition, reach, and dedication to bring his universe to life.”
Said Liefeld: “Netflix has become a part of every day existence for me and my children. Their programming is the most dynamic and diverse I have seen. I am beyond thrilled and inspired to be bringing my Extreme catalogue to life with the creative wizards at Netflix. What Akiva Goldsman has achieved with his craft and storytelling across all mediums in our industray is of absolute benefit for my Extreme characters. He is an absolute comic book fanatic and working with him on adapting Extreme Universe has been electric. His stellar work on Star Trek Discovery has wowed the fandom and trust me when I say that the Teen Titans show he is producing is going to blow fans away. I cannot wait to show the world what we have in store.”
Goldsman and Liefield are producing with Brooklyn Weaver, and with Weed Road's Greg Lessans executive producing.
