GAMBIT: Gore Verbinski In Talks To Helm The Long-Gestating Marvel/X-Men Adaptation

I'm not a praying man but I have certainly been hoping at the very least that the last several years of Gambit movie hype haven't entirely been for naught. A revolving door of on-again/off-again coverage all but lies in this projects wake while we can at least feel thankful that actor Channing Tatum has stayed committed, and rumors stirring of Bond franchise star Daniel Craig's involvement as Marvel villain Mr. Sinister could make things a bit more promising.

Alas, the important part here at least is whether or not this film is going to get a damn director and it's been VERY frustrating. With any luck, perhaps Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise co-helmer Gore Verbinski can be the man at the helm as talks are now underway for the filmmaker to sit in according to trade reports at Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.

Verbinski's confirmation, if to be, follows the departure of Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman dating back to 2015; Liman himself has his plate full with a number of movies, including fantasy YA adaptation Chaos Walking which is already filming ahead of a 2019 release.

Tatum is producing with partner Reid Carolin and with producer Simon Kinberg who helms X-Men: Dark Phoenix, one of several films based on 20th Century Fox's long-running live-action treatment of the X-Men superhero franchise. Gambit still awaits its own release date and further casting confirmations.
