Stewart, Nyong'o Among Those Circling CHARLIE'S ANGELS For Sony

It's been a few years since we last learned that actress/director Elizabeth Banks would helm a theatrical reinstatement of classic television property, Charlie's Angels. This week, casting is reportedly underway and several names are in the mix for roles, including those of actresses Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o.

Banks, director of the hit musical comedy sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, will also produce the film for Sony Pictures with her husband Max Handelman. Based on the popular ABC series from 1976 to 1981, Charlie's Angels centered on three women, accompanied by their associate, Bosley, who work various assigmments as private investigators for the Townsend Agency at the behest of actor John Forsythe's speakerphone voice.

McG directed two quirky feature contemporary film adaptations in 2000 and 2003 which transitioned the same narrative whilst paving the way for "Destiny's Child" music fandom and riding the coattails of Hong Kong crossover fight action with the likes of veteran action director Yuen Cheung-Yan. NBC later attempted to bring the TV series back to life and lasted only eight episodes.

Charlie's Angels is dated tentatively for a June 7, 2019 release. Stewart can be seen next in William Eubank's subterranean survival thriller, Underwater, while Nyong'o will appear in Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi this December, and Marvel's Black Panther the following February. (Variety)
