Arrow Films Acquires VIKING For U.K. Distribution!

Much like other big scale Russian film productions of late, director Andrey Kravchuk's epic period action thriller, Viking, has often been the subject of question over wide release potential. The movie made for grand buzz for its local and CIS theatrical reception back in December with Danila Kozlovsky starring from a script by Kravchuk and scribes Andrey Rubanov and Viktor Smirnov, and grossing $25 million dollars for its run.

This week, the latest report at Screendaily confirms the film will now gain entry in several more territories with Arrow Films nabbing the title for a UK release. Konstantin Ernst and Anatoly Maximov (Night Watch) produced the film set in the late 10th century Kievan Rus with Kozlovsky as a prince forced into exile following the death of his older brother at the hands of their power hungry younger warlord brother, ultimately to forge the necessary alliances to grow an army strong enough to face him head on.

“There’s a strong appetite for this kind of genre,” said Arrow Films director Tom Stewart. “This is very commercial for home entertainment and we know that VOD and pay TV will show interest in this subject matter as well,... “There is a big audience for this particular area.”

The film's mothership at Central Partnership has also granted Eagle Pictures an Italy release with territories such Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Benelux, Czech and Slovak territories, former Yugoslavia, and throughout Latin America via California Filmes already in its wake. Also starring are Igor Petrenko, Vladimir Yepifantsev, Maxim Sukhanov, Andrey Smolyakov, The Wolverine (2013) co-star Svetlana Khodchenkova, Kirill Pletnev and Aleksandra Bortich.
