The funny thing about the new announcement from Warner Bros. Pictures regarding The Batman is that it makes no mention of actor Ben Affleck. This probably means that rumors of the actor's departure from the role probably won't go away though fans may still expect him in the forthcoming Justice League films from director Zack Snyder.
Thus, we shall see if the trades confirm anything. In the meantime and after quite a recent roller coaster of uncertainty, Matt Reeves, director of the upcoming War For The Planet Of The Apes is officially on deck to helm the standalone Batman film. Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Pictures Group made the announcement stating, “We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child.” said Reeves “He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Batman was created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger and ultimately became one of DC’s most enduringly popular super heroes lasting several film, TV, toy and game franchises. Affleck is the sixth person in the character's on-screen history to star in the role having debuted the character in Snyder's Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice last year prior to cameoing in David Ayer's Suicide Squad.
Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film following its production and pending release date info while Affleck will be joined by his ensemble cast in what is expected to be the first of two Justice League for Warner Bros. Pictures, opening on November 17.
If Affleck is still in, I'll be sure to post a piece for it. Until then, time will tell who Warner Bros. casts for its new Batman if that's the case.
Stay tuned!
