Lionsgate released the official trailer on Monday for dystopian sci-fi, Future World. Interestingly, the central male protaganist played by Jeffrey Wahlberg gets no name-mention while the trailer moreso sells on its more prolific casting roster with James Franco (The Disaster Artist) on both sides of the lens - which might be a mistake considering how you choose to view any of the controversy he's been the crux of as of late.
Inside a desert oasis, a queen (Lucy Liu) lays dying as her son Prince (Jeffrey Wahlberg) travels across barren waste lands to find a near-mythical medicine to save her life. After evading violent raiders on motorbikes led by the Warlord (James Franco) and his enforcer (Cliff “Method Man” Smith), Prince meets Ash (Suki Waterhouse), the Warlord’s robot sex companion-assassin who's in search of her own soul. As Prince is captured by the Druglord (Milla Jovovich), the Warlord’s forces roar in – and Prince fights to save the remnants of humanity. You read that correctly: robot sex companion-assassin. Thus, adding more ridic to the "creative" rip-off-isms and the what-the-heck-is-Snoop-Dogg-doing-here-ishness (and I like Snoop!) moviegoers get to plot for their own select theatrical or VoD viewing on May 25 from Lionsgate...
Either that or they can just go and rewatch Albert Pyun's Cyborg or Nemesis. Whatevs.
Franco directs along with co-writer Bruce Thierry Cheung. Catch the trailer below.
