The Official Trailer For YouTube Red Series COBRA KAI Kicks Nostalgia In The Face

Weeks and weeks of short teasers and promos now bring netizens in full view of the official trailer for YouTube Red series, Cobra Kai. The first few seconds feel like a tiny spoiler if you have a keen eye and sense in comparing the footage to that of the original film, but what ensues is a raft of reasons to get into the narrative.

Roles swap in this new installment with actor Ralph Macchio taking on a more antagonistic persona for the show opposite William Zabka whose own arc is the crux of the series. Homages to the past film franchise are abound in addition to a fresher blood for this latest spin-off which also hails the emegence of actor Xolo Maridueña in a role that clearly echoes that of Macchio's in 1984. These ought to give way to understanding the mechanisms behind what drives this show ahead and otherwise seemingly invokes a little more than nostalgia to get people plugged in for the show's May 2 premiere date.
In the highly-anticipated return of two iconic characters, the arch-rivals from the legendary Karate Kid film series reunite over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Now living in the affluent hills of Encino, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) leads an enviable life with his beautiful family, while running a successful string of car dealerships throughout the valley. Meanwhile, his high school adversary, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), whose life has taken a rocky turn, seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. Their lives inevitably become intertwined and the rivalry is reignited, setting forth the next generation of “karate kids” in COBRA KAI, a YouTube Red Original Series. COBRA KAI is produced by Overbrook Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television.
10 half-hour episodes are abound and with it, a slightly more blurred line between the heroes and villains with a protagonist in an IP that still peaks the interest in its own special way.
