For writer and director Oleg Stepchenko, the respective journeys toward completing 2014 fantasy epic, Viy, and its upcoming sequel, have both been arduous to say the least. Gladly having climbed over the hill now with the first film reigning in box office success, Stepchenko and the folks at Nashe Kino are looking to repeat their fruition for Russia/China co-production, Viy 2: Mystery Of The Dragon Seal heading to theaters this August.
The Russian Czar Peter the Great commissions Jonathan Green, an English traveller, to map the Far East territories of the Russian Empire. Green sets off on yet another long journey, full of unbelievable adventures, which eventually leads him to China. On his way, the famous cartographer makes breath-taking discoveries, meets mysterious creatures, Chinese princesses, deadly masters of oriental martial arts, and even Lun Van, the King of Dragons, himself. What could be more perilous than looking into the eyes of Viy? Only meeting him again… What will prevail this time — the unflinching scepticism of the scientist or ancient black magic, which has already gained influence over the Far East Lands?
Currently the second of a trilogy to be completed by next year, Stepchenko penned the script with scribes Dmitry Paltsev and Alexey Petrukhin for the return of actor Jason Flemyng back for the role of journeying cartographer Jonathan Green. The official trailer finally arrived as well and further teases an extra bit of fan service with a little fight scenery between action stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan (Around The World In 80 Days) who also serve as producers.
Rounding out the cast are Rutger Hauer and returning co-star Charles Dance, with Yuri Kolokolnikov, Vilen Babichev, Mikhail Mukhin, Xingtong Yao, Alexey Ogurtsov, Anna Churina, Pavel Volya. Watch the brand new trailer below!
