Director Rick Famuyiwa is making this week his own with at least two projects sourced per exclusives at The Hollywood Reporter and on Friday at Deadline. The celebrated helmer behind the hit film, Dope is partnering with producers at Plan B and New Regency for supernatural thriller, Black Hole.
Inspired by Charles Burns's 1995 cult graphic novel of the same name, the film is set in the 1970s Pacific Northwest where teens have contracted sexually transmitted diseases that turn them into mutants. New Regency is financing the film which has been circling an adaptation since 2005.
Famuyiwa's headline profusion increased even further having landed Netflix's latest superhero feature, Past Midnight. The SVOD service behind a raft of Marvel shows all its own have reportedly won the bid in a hot contest for TJ Fixman's script which, sans public plot details, teases a new type of vigilante superhero story with actor Keanu Reeves up to star and celebrated Marvel helmers Anthony and Joe Russo to produce.
Details remain pending on when and where Past Midnight will film while it could be almost shortly after the forthcoming Spring/Summer production of John Wick: Chapter Three under Chad Stahelski's direction. The Russos' Avengers: Infinity War just announced an advanced U.S. release date next month in addition to six more untitled films from the studio through July 2022.
