Michelle MacLaren To Direct COWBOY NINJA VIKING For Universal

There's plenty to be thankful for in continued efforts to adapt Image Comics property, Cowboy Ninja Viking. That one is still moving forward at Universal and Deadline has the latest word on it that award-winning Breaking Bad EP, Michelle MacLaren has reportedly been ironing her own deal out with the studio to direct, and so it is.

Craig Mazin's updated draft from that of Zombieland scribes Paul Wernick and Everett David Reese is based on the 2009 publication from Image Comics via Shadowline; Created by writer A.J. Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo, the new film will center on Pratt in the role of Duncan, the product of a government program that transforms people with multiple personality disorders into highly trained agents known as "Triplets", who is forced to hunt down others like himself using his unique skillset highlit by his three distinct personalities: a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking.

Pratt, who reunites with the heroes of Kevin Feige's MCU in Avengers: Infinity War this May, is producing Cowboy Ninja Viking as will Management 360's production shingle, Entertainment 360 and Mark Gordon and Michael De Luca under their respective banners. Universal Pictures production VP Sara Scott is overseeing.

The news comes two years since John Wick directing duo Chad Stahelski and David Leitch were reported to helm the pic in 2015 - long prior to committing to several other projects, namely Highlander, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, as well as canon and spin-off installments centered on the John Wick franchise for the big and small screens to name a few. MacLaren, who was last a candidate to helm Wonder Woman that same year before the chair went to Patty Jenkins, also has World War II drama, The Nightingale, in tow for TriStar.
