Dustin Nguyen's career progression behind the lens started only recently as 2013 with narrative features having debuted with fantasy actioner, Lua Phat. His directing work hasn't at all proved partial toward any specific genre - signature of a healthy craft - but his continued passion for martial arts is always appreciated.
Alas, time will tell if his newest endeavor, 798Muoi, will pass muster. Nguyen also stars and is joined by lead actor Kieu Minh Tuan and actress Thu Trang for the upcoming road comedy about a man whose marriage prospects are withheld as he's forced to make a choice between money and friendship when he finds himself in too deep with gangsters.
The latest trailer offers a little more insight as well with Nguyen starring as the friend - a blind character who is not only a little more wiser of the two, but can also dole out the essential kung fu beatdowns when acquired.
Not knowing Vietnamese apart from gathering visuals does take a bit away from understanding the full breadth of any readable or audible info about this or any international regional project. That said, this doesn't take away my appreciation for Nguyen and I hope this aspect of his work never goes away....
...It also helps that the trailer is subbed. Just sayin.
798Muoi opens during the Tet holiday in Vietnam next month. Watch the brand new trailer below!
