AFM 2017: Bareknuckle Brawl Pic DONNYBROOK Starts Filming As Sierra/Affinity Readies Sales

Following news last week, Sierra/Affinity will be handling international sales at the American Film Market this month for writer and director Tim Sutton's new bareknuckle fight thriller, Donnybrook. Hailing from Rumble Films and Backup Media, cameras have begun rolling in Cincinnati for the film now being planned for a 2018 release with Frank Grillo (Beyond Skyline), Margaret Qualley (Death Note), James Badge Dale (Spectral), and Jamie Bell (6 Days) headlining the cast.
Adapted from Frank Bill’s 2013 noir novel of the same name, DONNYBROOK is a wild, backwoods version of FIGHT CLUB meets NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, a man hard up for cash and determined to support his family competes in the Donnybrook, a legendary, bare-knuckle brawl where a $100,000 prize goes to the last man standing.
Tim Sutton's previous writing/directing credits include the critically acclaimed Memphis (2013) and Dark Knight (2016), which premiered last year at Sundance before screening at both Venice and AFI Fest.

The film is a fourth outing for Sierra Affinity with Academy Award®-nominated David Lancaster (Drive, Whiplash, Nightcrawler). He will produce along with Stephanie Wilcox of Rumble Films, together with full financing of Paris-based Backup Media. Donnybrook also marks the third feature in the last two years that Rumble and Backup have made together after Fabrice du Welz’s Message From The King and Evan Katz' Small Crimes.
Nick Meyer, CEO of Sierra/Affinity, stated, “We are delighted to be working with David again. DONNYBROOK is right in his producing wheelhouse of delivering high quality elevated genre films and we can’t wait to bring Tim’s vision of this muscular and gritty world to a global audience.”
UTA Independent Film Group is representing US rights.
