January 12, 2018 is the date to slate for Sony and Screen Gems's forthcoming action thriller, Proud Mary. The first official trailer arrived on Thursday after wrapping a few months ago with London Has Fallen helmer Babak Najafi back in the director's with actress Taraji P. Henson in the title role.
John Stuart Newman (Dirty Work) and Christian Swegal (Stasis) wrote the screenplay which has Henson starring as the fierce and beautiful Mary - a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets Danny, young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad. Said young boy is played by Jahi Di'Allo Winston who joins Henson along with actor Danny Glover in the role of Mary's ruthless father figure joined by Margaret Avery as his wife and actor Billy Brown who plays their son, Tom.
Rounding out the are Neal McDonough who plays a well-manicured killer and Xander Berkeley who plays the sadistic drug-dealing villain. Best of all next to some terrific looking action sampled in the trailer is the lensing from John Wick: Chapter Two DoP, Dan Laustsen, which says all you need to know about how great the action sequences are going to look.
