While Patty Jenkins's Wonder Woman became a global hit in its first live-action film since hitting comic book pages more than seventy years ago, perhaps one of several major misfires was not having her signed right away for the sequel. This led to the question persisting as the film began circulating in the press as the promotional tour was under way leaving any and all wondering just when this would happen.
On Tuesday, Variety posted an interview with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, the two men helping to shephed the DC Universe in its current evolution, wherein among the questions were the following two:
Will Patty Jenkins be back to direct the sequel to “Wonder Woman”? Johns: Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great “Wonder Woman” film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.
Will Wonder Woman’s role be enhanced in “Justice League”? Berg: Her role won’t change, but she was already playing a big role. People really responded to Gal [Gadot] in “Batman v. Superman.” We knew we had something special.Disputes over the facts regarding title actress Gal Gadot's pay aside, the past century has been a sausage fest of male-led superhero films in live-action form and Wonder Woman is only just now able to rightfully claim her spotlight in a growing film universe. The film is still running in theaters and pre-orders are up for all the various Blu-Rays and combo packs and so on.
See this film and let's hope Jenkins gets to carry her shared vision once more on set again as long as it includes that shriekingly glorious theme!
