The marketing for director Michael Cuesta's latest thriller, American Assassin, wasn't without its fair share of brouhaha over some of the intial artwork. Thankfully it wasn't a huge page turner and it shouldn't have a huge effect on the film's overall delivery if it manages to win over a sizeable enough crowd for franchise potential with actor Dylan O'Brien (Maze Runner trilogy) leading the way.
That said, the film is the latest adaptation to set foot on the big screen soon following its popularity as a novel series central to its main character, Mitch Rapp, from the work of now late author Vince Flynn. Also starring are Sanaa Lathan and Michael Keaton with Shiva Negar and Taylor Kitsch rounding out the cast for the film's slated release on September 15 from Lionsgate, all of whom can now be seen in the newly released teaser trailer which offers something pretty ample looking in O'Brien's change of pace into something more grim and vociferous with action and espionage from YA filmlore.
AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
Could this be the start of its own saga? It looks appealing as so...but what say you? Check out the footage and comment below!
