Netflix-Bound GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET Roars Online With A New Featurette

The global box office success of Jordan Vogt-Robert's Kong: Skull Island, is doing greatly for efforts to help aid Hollywood in building a cohesive universe that will involve further intake of the other towering menace, Godzilla, on the live-action front. That hasn't at all hindered the folks over Polygon Pictures (Knights of Sidonia, BLAME!) who are well on their way to bring Netflix viewers their latest high-end offering with Godzilla: Monster Planet, which goes live this November.

TOHO Animation unveiled a featurette to help get your feet wet and immersed into the film's forth-set millieu which sits helmers Shizuno Kobun (Knights of Sidonia, Detective Conan), and Seshita Hiroyuki (AJIN: Demi-Human, BLAME!) in the director's chair with a screenplay by acclaimed anime writer Urobuchi Gen (Psycho-Pass, Madoka Magika). Per the press release from a few weeks ago: “We’re looking forward to bringing a spectacular entertainment experience for both existing fans of Godzilla and people new to the franchise”, said Shibuno.  Seshita added, “I’m thrilled to collaborate with two very talented colleagues, Mr. Gen Urobuchi and Director Kobun Shizuno to bring to life a unique vision of a universal human drama set in an epic world.”

Says Urobuchi, “I am very honored to join this Godzilla project as one of its Japanese creators. I’m grateful for all the support and really excited to bringing this content to fans worldwide.”  Netflix Japan President Greg Peters tells the public “We are truly delighted to unveil Godzilla, which is the latest addition to our growing catalogue of Netflix original anime content,... “Working with the best creators such as Toho in bringing Godzilla to Netflix users in over 190 countries marks a major milestone for us.”

SYNOPSIS:
The last summer of the 20th Century. That day, the human beings learn that they are not the only ruler of the planet Earth.
The appearance of the giant living creatures “Kaiju’s” and the ultimate existence that destroys all monsters: Godzilla. Through the battle against kaiju’s that lasted for half a century, human beings have experienced continuous defeat, and finally plan to escape from the Earth. And in 2048, only those who were selected by the A.I. managed under the central government boarded the inter-sidereal emigrant spaceship “Aratrum” to head for “Tau Cetus e”, the planet beyond the distance of 11.9 light-year. However, the environmental condition differences between that of the Earth and Tau e, which they finally arrived after 20 years were far beyond the predicted numbers, and was not an environment considered to be habitable by human beings.
The young man on the emigrant ship: Haruo, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla in front of his eyes when he was 4 years old, had only one thing in his mind for 20 years: to return to the Earth and defeat Godzilla. Shut out from the possibility of emigration, as the living environment in the ship deteriorates, the group of “Earth Returnists” led by Haruo became the majority, and determines to head back to Earth through a dangerous long-distance hyperspace navigation. However, the Earth they have returned has already passed the time of 20,000 years, and has become an unknown world with the ecosystem reigned by Godzilla.
At the end, will human beings win back the Earth? And what will Haruo see beyond his fate?
Godzilla: Monster Planet casts Kaji Yuki (Attack on Titan, AJIN: Demi-Human), Sakurai Takahiro (AJIN: Demi-Human, BLAME!), Sugita Tomokazu (Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), Suwabe Junichi (Nodame Cantabile, Prince of Tennis), Hanazawa Kana (BLAME!, Psycho-Pass) and Miyano Mamoru (AJIN: Demi-Human, The Seven Deadly Sins) among its voice talents.
